Economics Department

The Department of Economics, Ri Bhoi College came into being at the time of the establishment of the College, i.e., in the year 1984. In the beginning, the Department was managed by two Lecturers – Shri E.Chen and Shri R.I.Masharing who was also Principal and one of the founder members of the College. From a humble beginning, the department can make good progress in catering to the academic requirements of the student community of Nongpoh in particular and the district in general. The department had been offering both general and honours courses at the degree level in both the Arts and Commerce streams. Besides, the department is also taking up classes XI and XII in both disciplines. The intake of students in the honours classes has been increasing over the years. The cut-off mark for admission to the first semester B.A.honours is normally fixed at 50%. Academically, students’ performance in the plus two level and degree courses is satisfactory. The Department has at present four young teachers specializing in the various branches of economics. There is close cooperation and coordination among the faculty members in the discharge of any duty or responsibility. There is a lot of teamwork and sharing of responsibilities and duties. All these qualities and attributes have helped the department improve its performance over the years, especially in terms of students’ performance, which is very satisfactory.
