Library
The Library Department is an essential component of educational
institutions, public libraries, and various organizations that
provide access to information and resources. Its primary goal is to
organize, preserve, and disseminate knowledge to meet the
information needs of its users. The department typically consists of
librarians, library technicians, and support staff who work together
to deliver efficient library services.
The Library Department at Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, has been
catering service to the entire college. It has a collection of more
than 12500+ books and journals such as Economic and Political
Weekly, Indian Sociological Bulletin, Indian Journal of Management,
Finance, and Marketing, Edu tracks, Indian Philosophical Research,
Historical Review, and Mainstream, among others.
-
The department is responsible for acquiring, selecting, and
managing the library's collection of books and periodicals. The
collection reflects the interests and curriculum requirements of
the institution.
-
The Library Department manages and maintains the library
collection using elib software. This ensures that the catalog is
up-to-date, troubleshoots technical issues, and explores emerging
technologies to enhance library services. Recently in 2023, the
library migrated to Koha, a widely used open-source software with
more sophisticated features.
-
The library staff organizes the books and manages circulation
services, including borrowing and issuing of books.
Future Prospects:
With the rapid growth of technology, the library needs to be
upgraded to digital and E-Learning resources. Through digital
content, the Library Department will be able to provide access to
electronic resources, e-books, online journals, and databases. They
may collaborate with publishers and vendors to negotiate licenses.
The Librarian has actively participated in professional development
activities, attend conferences, and stay updated on emerging trends
and best practices in library science. This continually enhances
their skills to meet the evolving needs of library users in a
rapidly changing information landscape.
